Edible Hydrosol — A Legacy Offering

Kukui Mana is prepared using a recipe entrusted to me by my teacher, Kahuna Kaleiʻiliahi. I acknowledge her with gratitude and respect. This is an edible botanical hydrosol prepared from the Kukui tree (Aleurites moluccanus), a plant long associated across cultures with light, clarity, and guidance. This preparation reflects decades of study, immersion, and lived experience with plant-based practices, perceptual work, and traditional approaches to relationship with the natural world.

The hydrosol is created through low-temperature steam distillation of select fallen parts of the Kukui tree — including leaves, bark, and nuts — combined with purified water. A small amount of organic, food-grade alcohol is added for preservation. Kukui Mana is packaged in a 1 oz glass bottle with dropper. Suggested use is a small number of drops taken directly or added to food or drink, according to personal preference.

Illumination as a Perceptual Experience

Illumination, as used here, does not refer to belief or spiritual attainment. It refers to clarity of perception — the moment when confusion gives way to coherence, when inner noise settles, and when one’s sense of direction sharpens.

Many people experience this as emotional honesty, increased discernment, or a heightened capacity to see what matters and what does not. While this can be affirming, it can also be challenging. Clarity often asks us to confront habits, assumptions, or narratives that no longer serve us.

Kukui Mana is intended to support this reflective process — not to force insight, but to accompany attention.
